Associate Professor Dr. Soo is Senior Lecturer and Consultant in Endodontics, for Centre of Restorative Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) – The National University of Malaysia. He obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from UKM, in 2006 and joined the UKM Faculty of Dentistry as a Clinical Tutor thereafter. He had received several awards during his undergraduate clinical training, including a distinction in Prosthodontics and General Medicine. He has worked in various clinical departments in the dental faculty with a special interest in Endodontics. He is a member of Malaysia Endodontics Society (MES) since 2005, and had been nominated as a Honorary Treasurer and Assistant Secretary in 2006 and 2012, respectively.
After 2 years of academic teaching in general dentistry, he subsequently pursued his masters in Endodontics with the Prince Philip Dental Hospital, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). He received his Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Endodontics and Advanced Diploma in Endodontics (AdvDipEndodont) in 2010 and 2011, respectively. Dr. Soo was awarded a Membership in Endodontics by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (M Endo RCSEdin) the following year. He was also elected as a Fellow of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FDS RCSEdin) in 2018.
Dr. Soo has extensive training and experience in treating difficult endodontic cases, such as teeth with narrow or blocked canals or unusual anatomy, retreating root canals where the initial root canal therapy had been unsuccessful, root canal treatment involving separated instrument removal and endodontic microsurgery. His main area of research includes restoration of endodontically treated teeth, retreatment, root canal posts, endodontic materials, and CBCT. He also has published various clinical articles and is a reviewer for the Malaysian Dental Journal (MDJ).
